Cladophora Aegagropila or Aegagropila Linnaei also known as Marimo Moss Ball in Japanese and as Cladophora ball, lake ball, Mossimo or Moss ball in English, is a species of filamentous green algae found in a number of lakes in the northern hemisphere.
Marimo moss balls are little squishy balls of algae that look a lot like moss, hence the name. In the wild, they roll along the bottoms of rivers, giving them their round shape. They are also viewed as charms in Japan, and even treated as pets. It’s best to keep Marimo in low light.
